Tourism in Spindleruv Mlyn

Špindlerův Mlýn is the best-known mountain recreation and sports centre in Bohemia with numerous active leisure-time pursuits.

In summer the area around Špindlerův Mlýn offers over 180 km of hiking paths. On each of them you can find refreshments in the pleasant environment of trailside restaurants and buffets

For the more demanding there are ridgeway walks that you can comfortably get to the start of on the Pláně (1182 m) and Medvědin (1235 m) chair lifts

Latest detailed information on chair lift timetables and prices can be found at www.mestospindleruvmlyn.cz

Rambling – short outings:

Round the Elbe:
In Špindlerův Mlýn itself there are some fine outings, e.g. the enchanting promenade along the Elbe, leading along the chair lift route to Medvědín, where there is a fine view of the Giant Mountains including Sněžka, the highest peak in the Czech Republic.

Under Svatý Petr:
A panoramic round trip in the picturesque valley of Svatý Petr. which you will complete at a gentle pace in around two hours.

Easy ridgeway walk:
A less demanding outing – by bus from the centre of Špindlerův Mlýn to Špindlerova bouda at an altitude of 1400 m. On foot past the old Petrova bouda and Moravská bouda you will get back to Špindlerova Mlýn in two to three hours. We recommend the pleasant restaurant at Moravská bouda.

Bread and dripping at Rovinka:
Up the waterfall trail, which starts just a short distance from our guest house, to Horní Mísečky, where you head out for Rovinka. After quick refreshments in the sporty Na Rovince forest chalet you walk back to Špindlerův Mlýn via Krausovy boudy.

Pláně:
Take the chair lift to Pláně. Walk along the mountain ridges towards Strážná, past the Na pláni cottages and then take Věřina cesta down the slope back into town.

White Elbe:
A fine walk along dřevařská cesta (woodcutter's path) to bouda U Bílého Labe (about four kilometres). Here you can get refreshments and decide if you have the strength to carry on up to Luční bouda or you can comfortably get back to Špindlerův Mlýn along the road. This route is even suitable for the handicapped, leading from Divčí lávky for four kilometres with a slight upward gradient along an asphalt roadway to bouda U Bílého Labe.

Rambling – for more demanding and hardened walkers

Challenging day-long mountain hikes from Špindlerův Mlýn usually lead to Sněžka, the highest peak in the Czech Republic (1602 m).

Sněžka:
The least demanding path is the one that goes past Špindlerova bouda, which you can get to by bus from the bus station in the centre of  Špindlerův Mlýn every half hour during the tourist season. You get to Sněžka From Špindlerův Mlýn via Polední kameny and you get back via Luční bouda and Výrovka, where you can fortify yourself for the final descent down the Stoh slope into Svatý Petr.

Another way to get up Sněžka is from Svatý Petr –  with a fine ascent up  the Dlouhý důl valley to Výrovka and then on to Luční bouda.

Kozí hřbety:
A path with a beautiful view leads from Svatý Petr to Kozí hřbety and Luční bouda. Here you can decide either to carry on to Sněžka or to go back via Výrovka and the Na Rozcestí buffet down the Stoh slope to Špindlerův Mlýn. On the way from Výrovka to Na Rozcestí don't miss the unusual summertime natural phenomenon  – the map of the republic made out of snow, in which leftover snow on Studiční hora forms the shape of the Czech Republic well into the summer months.

Source of the Elbe:
The path to the source of the Elbe is one of the most beautiful. Take the chair lift up to Medvědín and carry on from there via Vrbatova bouda and Zlaté návrší past the Hanč and Vrbata cairn to the very source of the Elbe. The return trip leads to Labská bouda and then by a more demanding descent through the Elbe valley, where you can see the Pančavský vodopád waterfall, the highest in the Czech Republic (148 m). It is also possible to head from the source of the Elbe towards the Polish chalet Wawel and then to get back down via Sněžné jámy, Vysoké kolo, the old Petrova bouda, Moravská bouda and Davidovy boudy.
