TOURISM

Špindlerův Mlýn is the most famous recreational and sports mountain centres in the Krkonoše Mountains with endless possibilities for spending your leisure time actively. In summer, the surroundings of Špindlerův Mlýn offer over 180 km of hiking trails, marked on tourist maps of Krkonoše. On each of these trails you can refresh yourself in the pleasant atmosphere of restaurants or snack bars.

For more demanding hikers, there are hiking trails on the mountain ridges. In summer, you can reach the starting points of these trails comfortably by Na Pláni (1182m) and Na Medvědín (1235m) cableways.

  • Hiking - short trips:
Špindlerův Mlýn itself offers beautiful hiking trails, e.g. the enchanting promenade around the Elbe River, which leads around the cable car to Medvědín Mountain. Medvědín provides an exquisite view of the entire Krkonoše area, including the highest mountain in the Czech Republic, the Sněžka.
The sightseeing trail in picturesque Svatý Petr (Saint Peter) Valley can be completed in a relaxed pace in approx. 2 hours.

Less demanding hiking trail – take the bus up to Špindlerův chalet at an altitude of 1400 m and you can get back to Špindlerův Mlýn by hiking around Petrova and Moravska chalet in about 2-3 hours. They cook well at Moravska chalet, so we recommend stopping for lunch.

You can hike up to Horní Mísečky along the trail, from where you will head in the direction of Rovinka and after a light snack in the sporty environment of the new chalet Na Rovince or in the stylish pub at U Pirata offering a wide assortment of Krkonos specialities, you will return via Krausova’s chalet back to Špindlerův Mlýn.

Take the cable car up to Na Pláni and hike along the mountain ridge, pass the Na Pláni chalet towards Strážné and then return to town along Věřina trail down the hillside.

Another beautiful hike is the Dřevařska trail to U Bílého Labe chalet (about 4 km), where you can have a snack and decide: depending on your energy whether to continue to Luční chalet or comfortably along the road back to Špindlerův Mlýn. This trail is suitable also for handicapped individuals and leads from Dívčích lávek about 2.5 km up a gentle ascent along an asphalt road to U Bílého Labe chalet.

  • Hiking - for more demanding and skilled hikers:
Every challenging all-day alpine route from Špindlerův Mlýn leads to the highest mountain in the Czech Republic, to the Sněžka (1602m).

The least demanding trail is the on that leads through Špindlerův chalet. You can take the bus up to Špindlerův chalet. The bus departs from the bus terminal and runs every half hour. From Špindlerův chalet you can head off for Sněžka around Poledních Kamenů and return by passing around Luční chalet and Výrovka, where you can gather your strength for the final descent down the hillside Stoha to at Svatý Petr .
Another possibility for getting to the Sněžka is by taking the beautiful ascent through Dlouhy Valley from Svatý Petr, all the way up to Výrovka and then to Luční chalet.

A picturesque sightseeing trail leads from Svatý Petr to Kozí Ridge and Luční chalet. Here you can decide whether to continue to Sněžka or return through Výrovka pass the Na Rozcestí snack bar down the hillside Stoha back to Špindlerův Mlýn.

On the way from Výrovka to Na Rozcestí snack bar, don’t miss the unique summer natural wonder – the snow map of the Republic. In summer, remnants of snow are visible on Studniční Mountain resembling the shape of the Czech Republic and Slovak Republic.

The route to the Elbe’s source is one of the shortest – take the cable car up to Medvědín, from where you continue pass Vrbatova chalet and the Zlaté rise around Hanča and Vrbata mound all the way to the source of the Elbe itself.
The return journey leads to the Labska chalet and then along a more demanding descent down the Elbe Valley, where you will see the Pančavský waterfall – the highest in the Czech Republic (148m).
From the source of the Elbe River you can set off in the direction of the Polish chalet Wawel, then around Sněžné pits and Vysoké kolo you will get to Petr’s chalet and then descend passing by Moravska and former David’s chalet along the way.
